# Be the product AI assistants recommend.

## How it actually works

Steery is not another AI agent. The person's own Claude Code, Codex or omp does the work, on their machine and plan, with the MCP servers and CLIs they already use: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Search Console, llms.txt, schema.org. Steery is the companion that steers it:

- **The agent** (you): does the work with your own tools.
- **Steery**: one mission table of every item, its owner and its state, shared by the team and its agents; news from their tools wakes you.
- **The person**: approves the calls that matter, signed on their phone. This mission's rules:
  - Never submit, post, reply, create an account or pay for a listing without a person’s Go on the exact words and the cost.
  - Keep each place’s rules: one honest submission written for it, no vote or review swaps, no fake accounts, and no asking for upvotes where the place forbids it.
  - Say only what the site and product say today; never promise what is not built.
  - Never name a customer or quote a review without a person’s Go.

## Set it up for your person

Steery needs its apps before a mission can start. Do these in order:

1. Ask your person to install the Steery Mac app, https://steery.dev/downloads/Steery.dmg, and open it. It installs the `steery` runtime and connects this harness. If they cannot use the Mac app, read and follow https://steery.dev/install.md instead.
2. Ask them to install the Steery iPhone app, https://testflight.apple.com/join/Px7xdt92, and sign in. That is where they answer the calls that matter.
3. Once both apps are signed in, ask them to open `steery://adopt/people-find-us`, or to press New mission › "People find us wherever they look" in the Steery app.
4. Steery starts a session on their Mac that looks at their tools read-only and asks them a few questions, one at a time.

## One item, start to finish

1. **The weekly check.** “Best shipping API for Shopify apps?” · ChatGPT names 3 rivals and cites awesome-shopify. The same questions each week, to ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini.
2. **One row per place.** awesome-shopify list on GitHub · Worth a place. And one row per missing piece of kit, such as a comparison page.
3. **You approve the exact words.** Open a pull request to awesome-shopify? → Opened #881. With the cost, the place’s rules and the words.
4. **It goes live.** awesome-shopify · Live · cited by Perplexity a week later. Went live on a place, and New places a week goes up.

**Is this an AI agent Steery built?** No. Your own Claude Code, Codex or omp does the work, on your machine and your plan, with the MCP servers and CLIs you already use. You buy no Profound or Otterly or any other SaaS for this. It is you, your Claude Code and Steery.

**How do I get my product recommended by ChatGPT?** Be on the pages it cites, and make your own pages easy for machines to read. This mission asks ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini your buyers’ questions each week, finds where you are missing, and readies each fix.

**Is Steery a Profound alternative?** It measures less and does more. Profound reports where you appear. This mission also prepares the listings, launches and site changes, one approved step at a time.

**Does it post or submit by itself?** Never. Each submission waits for a person’s Go on its exact words and its cost.

**Does it change my website?** It drafts changes such as llms.txt, structured data or a comparison page as a pull request you review.
